PAK!!!!

Kidding aside...

Sabay sabay tayong lahat!!!!

Hiyawan galore na ang mga Party Animals!

Dyosa's Secret
Eto seryoso, hindi nako masyadong magbebeki language. Madali lang naman intindihin yung theory behind this pag may background ka sa Anatomy and Physiology. Well, Kuya ko kasi ay doktor that used to teach that subject tapos I am friends with loads of registered nurses. Also my interest in Temperence Brennan novels and series (which focuses in forensic anthropology) drove me to study the science.

I don't have a special units in Anatomy and Physiology but I gauged my mastery over the subject by acing the Major exams of my nursing friends (I answered their exams and had an average of 95%).

Anyway, please obeserve the picture below:

So sa picture makikita nyo after the tongue meron parang extension which is called the Epiglottis. It's a cartilage meaning a soft bone. Beyond the mouth kasi we have a space called the Pharynx. Afterwards, it will split into two tracts: the Esophageal and the Laryngeal Tracts. Its common knowledge that the Esophagus is connected to the stomach and the Larynx to the lungs.

So when you breathe air, the pathway is in default towards the Laryngeal tract But when you swallow food or drink, the epiglottis will act as a barrier and will close the tract to the larynx and the food will be delivered towards the esophagus. That is why you can't breathe and swallow at the same time.

Now onto my secret. Kya nauubo yung iba dahil dun.

As for my skill in gulping na nakatingala. Practice makes perfect! Not the idea that you think of but with BEER BOMB!!! Sarap grabeh!

Next time ulet!!! Tandaan ang Dyosa Word of the night nung gabing yun!

BAWAL ANG KJ!!!

Oil Depot Finale

I opted to stop writing my Economic Timebomb series because I am slated to work for the Petrochemical Industry. I believe that the series will be branded impartial because of my affiliation with the industry.

For this blog post, I would like to express my sentiments regarding the issue about the Oil Depots encompassing all the recent events. Consider this as my final stand on the issue as this will be the final time that I will write about it.

Just recently, I read an article that Mayor Alfredo Lim vetoed the Ordinance to change the Oil Depot Area from Heavy Industrial to Mixed Commercial. Honestly, I am quite delighted with the news. Finally, someone with the right mindset.

October 25, 2012. The Oil Depot issue was tackled by Prof. Winnie Monsod in her segment in Unang Hirit. Commenting on the issue were Mayor Alfredo Lim via Phone Patch and Councilor Jong Isip, the spokesperson for those who drafted the Ordinance.

After watching the segment, it is evident that in the surface the prime motivation for the passing of the Ordinance is the issue of SAFETY. This actually is the same point of an acquaintance in our publicly published debate in facebook.

I stand firm in what I said. If we are to remove the Oil Depots in Pandacan because of the perceive Terrorist Threat, then we should remove ALL Gasoline Stations in the Metro as well. The Primary function of the Oil Depots are storage and distribution. Gas stations are in essense small scale Oil Depots, hence they have the same function. Therefore, any threat that you can think of with the Oil Depots can be associated with the Gas stations scattered all over the metro.

If they really are scared of the Terrorist threat in the depots, I suggest they create an ordinance that will provide additional security for the area. Or better, ask the national government to provide it. Since Terrorist threat is a national issue not a local one.

Councilor Isip cited two additional scenarios that deemed the Oil Depots as Hazards. He spoke of the incident where an Oil Tanker Truck had an accident while it was on its way back to the Depot; Also, he cited the leakage of gas in the Condominum along SLEX.

I believe Mayor Lim effortlessly countered the first scenario. He mentioned that since the Depots function as storage and distribution hub, if it were removed, then a swarm of 2000 trucks will be coming and going to the Batangas Refineries (Chevron, Shell). Since the storage and distribution facility is gone, all the trucks will be coming from the provinces which will cause a big traffic jam in SLEX and of course an increase in utility cost for the Oil Companies which will be converted to increase in Oil Prices.

I would like to add that the Petron Refinery is in Bataan so kindly add the traffic jams in Pampanga and in NLEX starting at the San Fernando Exit. Also Expressways will be subject to very heavy loads than usual everyday as there will be increase in the number of Oil Tankers using them, It will then turn to Toll increase since the Toll Companies will need to maintain the roads as often as possible.

For the second scenario, I believe that this is a separate issue. That long Pipe that connects the Oil Depots to the Tabangao plants is owned by a third party company. It is not owned by neither Chevron nor Shell. I believe it is owned by the Ayala Company, since there is the word "First" in its name. Therefore the Oil Companies that "rent" the use of the long pipe is not responsible for the maintenance of the pipe. Hence, the negligence of the owning company should not be blamed on the lessee companies.

One question that I think was brilliantly asked goes something like this: "You passed the ordinance that repealed the earlier ordinance that converts the whole area to a Commercial Zone, now your passing another ordinance that amends this ordinance to convert a small portion of land that is occupied by the Oil Depots. Why?" That's not in verbatim.

If I recall correctly, Councilor ISip expressed that at the time, the reason why the City Council drafted the oridnance to repeal the ordinance that changes Pandancan to Commercial because there was a need to establish an Industrial Zone. Now, since there is an issue of safety with the Oil Depots, they drafted this new ordinance because of the people's "Right to life".

Okay, I would react on this, regarding the safety issue, it's already old news. Kindly reread my earlier sentiments about it above. I would attack this in a legislative point of view. I believe that the same people who passed the earlier repealing ordinance are the same people who passed this amending ordinance.

The repealing ordinance is for the establishment of an industrial zone. Therefore, the Councilors already had the power to set the boundaries in which the area in Pandacan will be considered as part of the Zone. If they considered the Oil Depots as a big safety threat, they should have already excluded the area of the Oil Depots as part of the Industrial Zone to have them removed. I believe that the reason for the drafting of the repealed Ordinance is also the same as this amending ordinance: SAFETY. Yet they included the area of the Oil Depots in the industrial Zone. It is inexcusable if they will say that they didn't thought of the safety issue during the drafting of the repealing ordinance since that is the main of the those against that particular Ordinance.

Why the change of heart? I agree with Prof. Winnie Monsod that that this is more political than a safety threat issue.

Next, I will answer the main point of my debate opponent in Facebook. Although I had this ready after his rebuttal in may last statement, I thought not replying anymore since a Third Party acted as a Middleman. I will finally answer it here.

His point rests on the idea that the Big Three will enjoy more profits if they are to move the facilities to the province. This is because of the low cost of living in the provinces. Therefore, operational cost regarding wages and utilities will be much smaller.

The fact is, the Big Three's main plants are already located in the provinces. As mentioned earlier, Chevron and Shell have their Refineries in Batangas while Petron has its plant in Bataan. Again, the depots act as storage and distribution hub which is essential in planning distribution routes and forecasting costs.

In general, companies have its manufacturing plants in the provinces because of the obvious reasons, as stated by my opponent, of lower operations cost. But they still have DEPOTS in the metro that acts as storage and distribution hubs.

Going to the prime example of my opponent, Coca-Cola Philippines moved its facility from Manila to Laguna. I believe this is his best example of a company migrating to the provinces. Well, yes the Coca Cola Philippines transferred its facilities there but it still has a "depot" in the metro.

If you will go to Pasig, near Eastwood, you will come across a Coca-Cola Distribution Area. Yes, it functions like a DEPOT. It acts as a storage and distribution facility just like what the Oil Depots in Pandacan.

Another example is San Miguel Brewery. It has its manufacturing facility in Laguna yet it has two DEPOTS, one in QC behind TIP, and one in Valenzuela. Liwayway Marketing has a plant in Cavite yet the finished products are shipped to its main office and storage facility in Pasay.

I can go on and on but the fact remains: DEPOTS in the metro are a must regarless of industry of a manufacturing company. It provides storage and quantifyable stocks so as to project the amount of products to ensure continuous supply in the market.

A few weeks ago, I heard a rumor that one of the Big Three is tranferring its Depot facility in the North Harbor here in Tondo. Well, if Pandacan don't want them, we will welcome them with open arms here in Tondo! We will enjoy the fruits of the Social projects of the company.

Also, I think will be a good move since the facility will be located in the West Philiipine sea and is already at seaside. They can use bigger barges to transfer the petroleum products since the barges don;t need to pass through the Pasig River anymore.

Oh well. One disaster averted. For now.

Wilberchie's Board Exam Experience Part 2

You can read the 1st part here.

Haru dyos ko! One year in the making ang sequel ng aking board exam experience! Wahahahha!!! Paxenxa na kasi for the longest time kasi wala akong time dahil nagwowork ako.

Alright! Lesgehitowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn!!!

You have 6 hrs to answer 100 questions.

Normally eto yung mga Identifications at Fill in the Blanks.

If A = B and B = C, What is C2=AB?
a.Ab.B
c.A or Bd.None of the above

Panis diba? Maniniwala ba kayo kung sasabihin kong This is an actually board problem? Yes, this was a question nung nagtake ako.

IMPORTANT!!!
Isang beses lang basahin ang question. Tapos pag nagfall sa mga scenarios na ito ang nangyari after mo bashain ang question, jump to the next item:
(1) Kelangan isolve ang sagot
(2) Hindi mo naintindihan yung question
(3) Hindi mo alam yung sagot
(4) Hindi ka sure sa sagot

Isang very very useful tip.
>>>>>Idouble check ulet yung number, importante to!!!
>>>>>Ishade na ang sagot.

Since puro bilog bilog lang kasi makikita mo dun sa answer card, nakakalito talaga, kaya idouble check lagi bago magshade. Ako na nagsasabi, mahirap burahin ang mongol 2. Pwamis!!!

End of questionnaire? Go back to start!

3rd reading.

This happened to me!

[2] By Trial and Error - Refer to the 21-gon diagonal example from Part 1.

[3] By Back-Substitution - Parang ang unethical noh? Well, that's the downside of multiple choice. One of them is the true answer, you just need to use them all. Given na may oras ka. Dito pumapasok yung pagiging mabilis mo sa 1st and 2nd reading.

Pano mo malalaman? Instinct and Intuition.

[5] By Reading - Yes, you read it right!

Isulat mo din yun sa scratch mo with the caption: TENTATIVE POINTS.

Tandaan na mag-ingat sa pagsheshade ah!!!

Tapos na ulet? You know the Drill!!! Isa pa!!!

Homily. Ginamit mo na yung 5 ways to get the answer sa last reading pero wa epek. In other words, HULAAN MO NAH!!!! Dito na pumapasok yung Chamba factor!

GOGOGOGOGOGOOGOGO!!!

30% Chemical and Physical Principles
40% Chemical Engineering Principles
30% General Engineering Principles

At para makapasa, kelangan ang grades mo sa lahat ng exam ay greater than or equal to 50%, tapos yung average nung tatlo ay more than or equal to 70%.

i-solve ang iyong Theoretical grades - Sure Average at Tentative Average
Day 1 + Day 2 + Day 3
SP
or
TP
(0.3)
SP
or
TP
_(5)(0.4)_
4
SP
or
TP
(0.3)
= SURE AVERAGE or TENTATIVE AVERAGE

hmmmp... Sure Average ko ay 65.7. Tentative average ko ay 86.1.

Ang Grade ko ay...

In between ng dalawang yan! Whahahahahh!!!

Random tips!!!
In general stringent sa Sharp brands.
Laktawan. Intayin ang announcement. Pag malapit na matapos ang time, i-treat as (3) scenario question.
- Iwasan sumagot ng letter E. Trick letter yun.
- Kumaen pag gutom. Pwedeng kumen pag nageexam. Ako nga Egg and ham clubhouse sandwich ang dala ko at Jungle Juice! Elementary ang Peg!
- wag kabahan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sayang sa oras kung mag-C-CR ka pa on the exam time.
- Wag nang mag-aral before the 1st day of exam and after the 1st and 2nd day. Magrelax. Matulog ng maaga. Walang idudulot ang pagcracram mo kundi kaba.
- Dumating ng maaga sa venue. Mas mawawala ang kaba mo.
- Wag nang magpapalit palit ng sagot. Nagiging sanhi yan ng pagkabagsak.
- Please read my article regarding the Legend of Uncertainty Principle: Totoo ba ang When in doubt, choose b or c'?

Goodluck Future Chemical Engineers!

Photobucket
Sigurado ako by now, may nakapagsabi na sayo yung technique na ginagawa nila pag multiple choice yung exam. Most likely, eto yun:
When in doubt, choose b or c.

In an attempt to prove the theory na may preference yung pag-automate sa b and c na answer...
-Gumawa ako ng program na nagrarandomize ng number from 1 to 4. 1 represents a, 2 for b, 3 for c and 4 for d. Simulating yung correct letter of answer.
-I made it to simulate the board exam na gumagawa ng 100 questions.
-1 batch = 1 run of the program
-I took 5 batches.

Eto yung source code: Click on the Text Area, press CTRL+A, then CTRL+C to copy the source code

Eto ang results...

Data
Photobucket
so ayan sa taas yung 5 batches ng data

Mean and Median
Photobucket
So as you can see, sa limang batches ng 50 exams, magkakalapit lang yung mean at median nung apat na sagot.

Relative Frequency Distribution
Photobucket
In general, pinakacommon yung 21-25 number range for all choices. Pumapangalawa yung 26-30. Or baliktad dun sa iba. Pero pwede natin maconclude na mataas yung frequency from the 21-30 range. Population mean is 25.5, so safe assumption na 25 questions na ang sagot ay isa sa choices out of 100 questions. Tig te-25 ang a, b, c at d.

Conclusion

Meron akong theory kung totoo man yung preference sa b and c. Pag hindi automated or manual yung pag sulat nung choices, ang mindset, itago sya sa gitna, which are b and c.

Eto yung human factor in making the exam.

TSYMIS - Tele-systematic Military Intelligence Sector
Location: Formerly ABS-CBN Compound, QC, Metro Manila
Built: After the formal agreement of Gabby Lopez and the Military to use the ABS-CBN Compound for Intelligence purposes.

Report: It is the MI6 of the Philippine Force, the TSYSMIS serves as the intelligence center for all military and black operations in and out of the warzone. The facility is equipped with the highest grades of sensors and satellite dishes that even the faintest whispers of the residents of Guangzhou is heard and recorded from Manila. It will attempt to infiltrate the corridors of Beijing and defy China's own counter devices. Ms. Kris Aquino, the sister of the President, commands the TSYSMIS. The TSYSMIS digital systems can reach and guide every individual Philippine army soldier through an adjutant to direct him to his objectives.

Update: Multi-trillionaire Manny V. Pangilinan is interested to support the project in order to eliminate the Lopez behemoth station and to provide for the development of his own shows. The Philippine government is interested to prod Manny Pangilinan instead. When the war council assigned Kris Aquino to be the head of the TSYSMIS, Cristy Fermin and Raymond Gutierrez protested and planned to assasinate the Presidential sister. The two were arrested for contempt and were exiled in Lubang island.

Surrot Missile Turret (Anti-aircraft/airborn troops missile)
Location: Planned to line at the western seacoast of Luzon and Palawan
Built: In progress

Report: President PNoy Aquino met with the DOTC professors at the mid of May 2012 and asked "Ano ba ang pwede nating ipamdepensa sa Pilipinas laban sa mga Crane jets ng Tsina". In lying to a cushion bed, a bed bug bit him and shouted "Ay surot!" The scientists applauded the declaration and developed a missile projectory calling it as a SMTS, or a Surrot Missile Turret System.

The Surrot Missile has the ability to hit aircraft and other airborne hostile formations. Its turret releases a grand missile and 5 smaller missiles per two seconds, confusing the airspace. The after effect of the impact of this missile is deadly itchiness of the skin. They are planned to be lined in the Ilocos Region, Batanes, Palawan and in some key points. The President want it to be planted all over the Philippines.

Update: A Surrot Missile Turret model was given to Malacanang and the army are planning to plant SMTS's in the Malacanang grounds and two at Rizal's Monument. It was reported that a Surrot Missile Turret has been planted in Corregidor.

Usapang Thesis

Sabi ko nga sa kanya, let be geeks be geeks! Whahahahah! Okay, so simulan natin sa title. Ang title ng thesis ko ay:

Removal of Nickel (II) ions in aqueous solution by Adsorption using
Gamma Irradiated Carboxymethyl Kappa Carrageenan

Nosebleed ba? May food grade carrageenan kasi. Ginagamit syang gelling agent at stabilizer. One example eh ingredient yan sa nabibili mung gulaman powder sa super market. Ginagamit din sya para mas maging creamy ice cream (thesis to nung taga Singapore na nagpresent sa Regional Symposium on Chemical Engineering), sa paggawa ng meatballs as a binding agent, at sa kung anik anik pah! Balik tayo sa thesis, pinili yung Kappa-carrageenan among the three dahil sa ability nitong gumawa ng strong and rigid gels na firm to touch.

Ayun, mapupunta sa katawan natin yung Heavy metal that can cause very grave diseases. Other examples of Heavy metals are: Mercury, Lead, Arsenic, Chromium.

Example, yung sponge at tubig, inaabsorb nung sponge yung tubig pag binabasa mo yun. Another example, bulak at astringent. Example, pag naghuhugas ka na mamantikang kawali.

Organic chemistry is the study of mainly carbon and its constituents. So ang ginawa namin ni-Carboxymethylate namin yung Carrageenan. Ibig sabihin, tinanggal namin yung Hydrogen na katabi nung Oxygen at pinalitan yun ng Methyl constituent. Methyl in symbol is –CH3.

Crosslink ibig sabihin mag-vovolt-in yung mga Carbon nung methyl.

Tapos pinatest namin using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer yung before and after babad nung mga samples.

At least here we are offering a simple yet cost effective way of treating heavy metal contaminated waste water. Bukod pa sa actual application nya na makakatulong maiwasan yung heavy metal contamination sa mga water sources and even seafood.

Actually mukha ngang pang BS Chem tong thesis na to eh. Pero pwede kasi syang iapply sa industry. Kelangan lang itest yung effectivity nya on actual Waste water. Kulang pa kasi sya on actual Chemical Engineering setting eh.

Oi Joe! Ikaw naman! Hihi!

PS

Big time yung Thesis Adviser ko dyan! One of the prominent Filipino Chemist! Pag nabasa mo yung apelido nya, alam mo nah! Lumeleveling sya! Hihi! Mag-ate silang Chemist na saksakan ng galing! Yun nah!

Hexagon Warzone: Preview

Photobucket
Wow! It's our first time to fill up the whole Sectors with chips!

Hexagon Warzone is actually a game that my good friends and I are developing. It started with our addiction with Challenge 21, and then it led to this. An almost original game. I'll explain it more when we finalize all of the rules. I promise! I'm also the one tasked for making the manual so I can just create a blog post for it... hihi! so excited!

The most exciting game yet!!! GAMITAN NG TACTICAL ABILITIES!!!

I promise I'll do some time in writing a full blog about Hexagon Warzone! I pwamis!

Challenge 21 Extreme

Don't know what Challenge 21 is? Read this first!

Photobucket
This is how we get serious when we're playing the game! XD

Photobucket
If I remember correctly we're already applying Battle of the Spies rules here. Read on to find out more about it.

UPDATES!!!

Here's the deadly Cross formation that I forgot to put a picture::

Photobucket

So here are some updates regarding some of strategies. We finally named Manong's Mantra...

Photobucket
Manong's Mantra: Overkill

It's a very very straightforward mantra. Why bother doing the required Papillons when you can just go over the required 21 points? So basically the main point is to achieve points of at least 27 points. So that even if you deduct the 6 point penalty because of the missing Papillons, you will still win.

Challenge 21 Extreme: Battle of the Spies

As I mention before, we are very enthusiastic about the game. But we are a total of 6 players and since the game only accommodates 4 players at a time, we decided to put in new rules to facilitate a 6 way war strategy.

Disclaimer: We don't own the game, this blog is simply to show how ecstatic we are with the game. Every rule about the game was thought about by the great man who invented it. We just added new rules so all of us can play it at the same time.

Since it would be pretty hard to win because of the increase in the number of players, we thought of adding a twist to the game. How about if you have an allied color and you can use it's formation to aid your own? Example:

Photobucket

For the picture above, suppose that red is allied with yellow. Red will complete the formation and will have 15 points for the 5 flags. If yellow is not allied with red, then red successfully blocked the formation of yellow's 5 flags and gave himself points as well. This new rule is really tricky so we decided to limit the use of only four (4) spies. You can only take your allied color's chips only four times. So like the picture above, red can take in the full 15 points because he used for chips of his allied yellow.

Photobucket

You can use your allied color's chips for any formation. You can produce the required Papillons, even the hard to maneuver Kite Formation! (Juancho did this!) I would like to point out though, that if your allied color formed a formation on their own, they will still receive points. Look at the red and yellow shark teeth formation at the bottom area. If yellow is allied with red, but red is not allied with yellow, Red will have 8 points for the 4 shark teeth, and yellow will take in 15 points for the 5 shark teeth using his chip and his 4 spies of his allied color.

So now, the only problem is how would we determine who would be allied to whom? We resolved that when Manong saw the Magic: the Gathering cards scattered in my room. We assigned a specific card for ourselves put it faced down on the board, shuffled it and took one each. Right now, we already assigned different Power Cards as we call them. This also comes with our assigned color.

My Power Card: Sachi, the Daughter of Sechiro. Color: Yellow

Our Power Cards and Color:
Whil - Sachi, Daugther of Sechiro - Yellow
Jebs - Takeno, the General Samurai - Blue
Juancho - Tobita, Master of the Winds - Green
Av - Kumano, Master Yamabushi - Brown
Whel - Soshiro, Son of Sechiro - Orange
Ron - Nagao, Bound by Honor - Red

Guys, if you're reading this? Want to have a custom Power Card Created? We can have it made in Tutuban. In those stalls that makes Membership cards.

a typical 6 way game. Although we haven't doen it yet

Anyway, according to the data that I have gathered, you can already win the game with the Battle of spies rule in place in just 6 turns. But typically, we average around 13-16 turns before someone wins. We are obviously in cut throats with each other because it becomes harder and harder to put in my multi-prong offense.

The hardest pick that you can have during the allied color selection is when you picked yourself. We still don't have any record of someone winning who picked himself and won. It's very hard. Because you can easily be seen if you're formations are completely your own. Also, if you try to bluff, you will lose valuable turns to complete your formations.

Right now, since we already have 6 players, I thought of another rule. Right now I'm calling it the War of two sides. But I am yet to finalize it and open it to the other guys. I'll save the discussion after we talked about it. So for now...

Challenge 21

Challenge 21 is a fast paced strategy game and is proudly a Filipino invention. I'm sorry because I wasn't able to get the name of the person who invented it, but we met him when we first tried it in this years Toy Convention in SM Megamall.

Photobucket
Manong's 1st winning board

Disclaimer: I don't own the game, this blog is simply to show how ecstatic I am with the game. Every rule about the game was thought about by the great man who invented it.
He's the bald man standing in this video:

My friends and I made a replica of the game with folder pieces and an illustration board, we don't intend to violate any laws by doing so. We are just very enthusiastic about the game and we enjoy playing it. We promise that as soon as the real game comes out to the market, we will be the 1st ones to buy it.

Playing Challenge 21 is easy! You just need to make formations using a one colored triangular chip set versus two or three other players. You each get to place one triangle chip in any of the spaces every turn. The board has a total of 25 boxes since the chip is triangular, you can place 4 chips in each box.

Photobucket

Each formation has a specified number of points. The 1st one to accumulate at least 21 points and say Deal is the winner! Here are the formations:

Photobucket
Papillon

The Papillon is worth 2 points. As an added requirement for the game, you need to have at least two Papillons so you wouldn't have a deduction of 6 points. Every Papillon missing will have a deduction of 3 points. So if for example you already have 21 points but don't have any Papillon made, your score will be deducted with 6 points. So your final score will only be 15 points (you still don't have enough points to win!).

Photobucket
Kite

The Kite is worth two points.

Photobucket
Pot

The Pot is worth 3 points.

Photobucket
Box

The Box is worth 8 points.

Photobucket
Shark Teeth

The Shark Teeth has 3 variations: 3 Shark Teeth worth 3 points (Green), 4 Shark Teeth worth 8 points (Red), and 5 Shark Teeth worth 15 points (Blue and Yellow)

Photobucket
Flags

The Flags has 3 variations: 3 Flags worth 3 points (Yellow), 4 Flags worth 8 points (Red), and 5 Flags worth 15 points (Blue and Green)

Photobucket
Birds

The Birds has 3 variations: 3 birds worth 3 points (Yellow and Green), 4 Birds worth 8 points (Blue), and 5 Birds worth 15 points (Red)

Photobucket
Zigzag

The Zigzag has 3 variations: 3 Zigzag worth 3 points (Red), 4 Zigzag worth 8 points (Green), and 5 Zigzag worth 15 points (Yellow and Blue)

Photobucket
Kite Formation

The Kite Formation is composed of 4 Kite shapes in a diagonal formation and a Papillon. The direction of the Kite should be the same to all while the location of the Papillon can be from anywhere in the board. This formation is 21 points and with the Papillon considered as part of the requirement. This means that you only need another Papillon to win or just another 3 points.

Photobucket
Four Corners

The Four Corners Formation is worth 21 points with the Papillon that can be anywhere in the board. It is also considered as part of the Paipillon Requirement.

Cross

The Cross Formation is the Deadliest Formation but is very hard to do. It is worth 21 points. You just need to have 5 Papillons in the board in a cross position. I'm sorry Idon't have a picture. I'll upload one next time!

You need to shout DEAL! when you are sure that you have 21 points or higher so you can be declared the winner.

The game is very very addicting... And I mean VERY!!! We always look forward for the weekends so we can play! We love it because it really involves strategy. You can't win if you just keep on placing chips. Because your opponents can block you if they know what your trying to do. But you can't leave out luck. You need to balance out your gameplay. Here's the question in every turn that you're going to make. Offense or Defense? It's very very tricky because you're battling with three other persons. If your too aggressive they might see through your offense and block your strategy. If your too defensive, your chances of winning will be solely based on your luck. So this is really a battle of wits. Think of it as a war and your chips as your battalion. If you are able to make formations you win. But as I said it's not that simple. But the best tip that I can give you came from the words of Sun Tzu himself: "War is based on Deception". Deception can be used offensively and defensively. Provoke and Divert. If you know how to deceive your opponents you will win.

Because we are so hooked on this game, we have our own strategems in playing it. The following are some of our strategies and finishing move for Challenge 21:

Photobucket
Juancho's Mantra: Control the center

By logic alone, this is a very good starting strategy, by simply controlling the center, you will have the flexibility to create many formations. Especially the high pointing basic 5 formations each worth 15 points.

Photobucket
My Mantra: Corner Power

This is the 1st strategy that I thought of and I'm using it every time I play the game. I chose the corners because they are usually the ones neglected. Also, the four corners formation is one of the main goal of this strategy. Although it is very hard since it's pretty obvious that you need to control all four corners for you to achieve that. It is very easy to transform to any 5 or 4 formations by controlling the corners. You just need to be flexible enough to get pass the defense made by the opponents.

Photobucket
Averi's Strategem: The Banderitas

This strategy is simple, just place chips at random and in the same direction, also blocking opponents when you have the chance. They will look like flaglets, hence the name. It looks as if this is just a nonsense tactic but in truth this is an aggressive defense strategy. You will be able to block any formations made by your opponents. But pure defense is not an offense in this scenario. So you must be able to somehow chip in a few offensive skirmishes now and then. You will have lots of options, as your chips are scattered throughout the board. Just be wise enough to use your defense moves earlier as a late offensive assault.

Photobucket
My Multi-prong offense Strategy

For this to work, you must learn the art of deception. You must learn to divert your opponents' attention to other fronts while you lay the foundations of your offense. Discreet is the word for it. Be Discreet. This is a late game strategy so you must be able to successfully hide your motives. So far, only the two prong offense seemed complete. I won three consecutive games using it. Like I said, this strategy is based on deception, you must make your opponents think that you are doing the control the center tactic when in truth your doing the Corner power. Make them think your doing Sharks Teeth when you plan on doing Zigzag. You get the logic. I wouldn't want to spill all the details, they will be reading this blog! whahahah! But the end should be that you have two options for offense, and that your opponents won't be able to stop both of them. Usually, my winning board has 5 Birds, 2 Papillons, and 3 flags. That's 15 + 4 + 3 = 22. Right now, I'm trying to perfect my three prong offense. I tried doing it during my game with Juancho and Manong, but they did a joint defense on my strategy. My theory is that since there is less time for preparation and diversion, your motive will be easily noticed in the three prong offense. But I'm not closing my door yet, I will try to use it again when its against three players. I'll just try to use it again, and if it is still noticeable, I'll abandon it.

Photobucket
Manong's Deadly Finishing move: Shark's Jaw

Although Juancho did this too, it was Manong who first made this Deadly Finishing move. The 5 Sharks Teeth is worth 15 points. Double that and he has 30 points. Minus 6 because he doesn't have the Papillon requirement leaves him with 24 points. He still wins.

I'll just update this from time to time if we have additional strategies. If this will be a sport, I'll be a varsity! whahahah!!!
